Steering damper

My steering damper is leaking oil and I have taken it appart for replacing the 2 O-rings. My problem is that I don't know what type and amount of oil. If anybody has the information I will be very pleased to hear the answer .

Oh, this is a good question....I`ve a leaking steering damper too. But it`s already changed so I´ve enough time for this answer.....

I want to repair the old one....maybe in the futur it is nessesary to change again...

Hm, das schein ein recht weitverbreitetes Problem darzustellen. Nun rate doch mal, wer dasselbe Problem hat...?
Was hat Dir denn Dein "Freundlicher" für das Neuteil abgeknöpft? Ich überlege indes ebenfalls, das Teil einfach selbst zu reparieren, bin für jeden Tip dankbar!

Hätte das Teil sogar auf Kulanz bekommen (50%) allerdings hätte ich dann die Werkstatt bemühen müssen und neben den 50% für das Teil den Arbeitslohn zu 100 %.

Da habe ich dann lieber selber gewechselt und habe so einen 2. Dämpfer zur Restauration und als ET

Michael, den sollten wir mal zu dieser bereits erwähnten Crosser-Werkstatt bringen, der repariert auch Federbeine. Der sollte das mit ein wenig Geduld günstig wieder insten können.

Schön wäre es, vorher zu wissen, welches Öl draufgehört...

Danke Dir, ich werde mal in meiner Werkstatt nachfragen, vielleicht gibt's ja auch hier "Kulanz-%"
Hmja, den Aus- und Einbau kann man leicht innrehalb von nur wenigen Minuten selbst erledigen. In puncto zugehöriges Öl werde ich mal versuchen, ob ich da was herausfinden kann. Allerdings könnte das schwierig werden, da die Teile gemeinhin nicht repariert, sonder 1:1 ausgetauscht werden...

Mine started leaking at 50K mi. I took it apart and measured the seals. Then I went down to the local bearing shop and ordered the seals ($2 ea. I think). Its pretty easy If you can change fork seals this is a no brainer. It has held up well for the last 20K mi. If anyone has one they are gonna throw away send it to me I will be happy to pay shipping

The seals are easy to get at any bearing shop. Take a look in your yellow pages and find the one nearest you. The seals size you need is a 10X20X7 mm. When you get the damper disassembled then get one of the seals back in you will need to add the oil (10w suspension fluid). Then bleed the damper by pumping it back and forth to get all the air out of the piston assy. Then install the second seal. This is the short version but you get the picture if ya need more help just send me and email.

Hope it will help some of you, but I still miss the amount of oil to put in the steering damper
