something to worry about

#1 Beitrag von Haug »

Hello,

Just got a BMW K1200LT 2004 (100000km) last week

looking the bike over, i found this (see foto) dry oil

Is it something to worry about ? (something for the dealer to look into ?)

My rear brakes are realy noisy when braking (squiky) ?

Putting at little list together for my dealer to look at

Anything else i should check

regards Haug

Hello Haug,

first of all I would clean the oil and tighten the clamp. Then I would watch for a few thousand kilometers if there comes new oil out of the cuff.

Hello Haug,

the reason is that the final drive gear loss of oil.
Normaly is it the Gasketring (In German:Simmerring)
from the output shaft from the final drive gear defect.
But this is repairable.
Is it possible to change both Gasketrings at the final gear.
This is only repairable with special wrench tools.
And it is not the cheapest repair.
I mean it coasts up to 350 Euro.

Best regards.

Add. Information:
It is extremly rare that the oil is comming from the Gearbox.
Please perform a visual check at the Gasketring at the gear
incoming shaft under the black rubber cover.

Best regards.
